For the past few years, I have been creating sculptures with laterite stones. Laterite is a metamorphic stone, which has high iron content. Granite, Schist, marble and other stones on the hill-side get converted to laterite over millions of years when water seeps through them, depositing iron and aluminium. This stone is soft when it is in the womb of the earth. When it is exposed to elements, it gets hardened. Laterite is also in the constant process of chemical change like human body. Laterit which contains high percentage of iron is called iron ore. I create exact replicas of the laterite stones using welded stainless steel nuts. The idea behind the work is exploring the ancestry of material by juxta-position of iron and iron ore.
