2. 20th June - 20th September 2009: An installation titled 'Le Déjeuner Sur L'herbe' in Lisbon at the Tapada das Necessidades (Garden of Necessities) in Lisbon, Portugal, curated by Isabel Carlos. The show consists of 10 artists.

Project Title:'Vasco - da - Gama Odyssey': 'Tapada das Necessidades' is strongly associated with Portuguese Maritime history. The sailors visited the Chapel in the garden before setting sail for distant lands. The Portuguese presence in Goa was responsible for the introduction of many vegetables, fruits and other plants into the Indian sub-continent. Indians had never heard of potatoes, tomatoes, sweet potatoes before the Portuguese brought them to India. Many varieties of chilies came into India from South America, Cashew nuts from Africa.  A variety of the most popular mangoes in India were a Portuguese introduction.

While wandering through the 'Tapada das Necessidades', I came across a date tree. This tree reminded me of an Arab trader, whom Vasco - da - Gama met at Zanzibar during his historic voyage. This Arab trader is supposed to have shown him the route to Calicut, where he first landed in India. My project is re-tracing the route of Vasco - da - Gama using rice seeds from Goa. I would plant rice in a wavy pattern, winding around the trees on one of the islands in the garden. The rice will follow a zig-zag route until it circles the date tree. After that it will run straight to Calicut. The rice takes about 12 days to grow for about 5 cm and the rice saplings will last for 4 months with proper watering.                    The installation is meaningful for me at many levels. Taking rice seeds from Goa and planting them in Portugal is for me an act which stirs history. It is an installation where the rice seeds will not just give birth to rice saplings, but will sprout ancient memories.

3. 'Moon and the tides': A sculpture (5 meters in diameter) for King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia, commissioned by Urban Art Projects which is a company based in Australia.
